How much does the Everest base camp trek cost?

Everest base camp trek is the most popular trekking in the world. There are thousands of trekking companies who sells EBC trek package. The trek cost varies from company to company. The international trekking company charges more cost as compared to local companies like Mission Summit treks, The Everest treks etc. The cost varies on type of trekking such as budget, semi luxury and luxury. This article tends to give detailed information on EBC trek cost and its breakdown.

The trekking in mountain are of two type: service trek and package. If we select service trek then the company will only provide guide and all expenses such as flight, permits, food, accommodation, guide and porter will be ours. The trekking cost will depend on the type of rooms and food items we select. We can finish the trek in low budget based on our expense on extra things. Lukla flight cost

Lukla flight fare is 256 USD per person for one-way ticket. The ticket cost increase on peak season and decrease on off season. The cost changes based on the cost of fuel.

Accommodation cost

Accommodation cost is based on type of room. The common room cost is cheaper than attached room. The room cost varies on type of tea house as well.

  • · Common room cost: $6 – $10
  • · Attached room cost: $13- $25
  • · Luxury room cost: $210 – $250

Food cost

The cost of food varies on type of food we eat. The price of food will be higher on higher elevation as the transportation cost increase with distance. We need minimum $6 per meal in lower elevation. It costs $15 – $20 per meal on Lobuche and Dingboche. The cost of Nepali food is more higher than western food as it contains more items and additional food in free.

Permit cost

We need two permits for Everest base camp trek with different cost.

  1. Khumbu Pasang Lhamu permit: NRs. 3000 for foreigner, NRs. 2000 for SAARC countries
  2. Sagarmatha national park permit: NRs. 3000 for foreigner, NRs. 1500 for SAARC countries

Guide and porter cost

Guide cost starts with Lukla flight. The minimum cost is USD 30 – 50 per day for guide which may increase to 50 – 100 USD per day based on specific language. The porter cost is USD 20 per day. The guide and porter cost is their daily salary which does not include their food.

Water and battery charge cost

Hot water cost is based on bottle of water and battery charge cost is based on number of device. We should pay Nrs 100 per bottle of water in lower elevation whereas it cost NRs. 500 – 1000 on higher elevation. Similarly, the battery charge cost is Nrs. 200 per device in lower elevation and Nrs 300 per hour per device in higher elevation.

Shower cost

It is not suggested to take shower on Everest region due to cold temperature and high change of cold and fever. We can get shower after paying Nrs 500 per bucket of water.

Transportation cost

Beside lukla flight cost, we need airport pickup and drop cost which is around $30 for one pickup and drop. If we have to drive to Ramechhap, the cost will be $170 – $200 per vehicle for one-way drive. Altogether we should pay around $450 for Kathmandu – Ramechhap route.

Electric blanket

If we take electric blankets then we have to pay separate cost which charge NRs 4000 per night. We can get electric blanket in Namche, Dingboche, Lobuche and Gorekshep.

Tipping cost

Tipping cost depends on personal wilingness to pay. The trekking company suggest not to deduct the rate from $150 for porter and guide and it should be given separately.

Conclusion

The cost mention above is a tentative cost which may vary from company to company. If we choose luxury trek, the cost will be three times more than budget trek cost. Beside basic cost we may need some extra amount for buying extra food, chocolates, soft drinks, coffee on the tea houses. You may need atlest 500 extra cost during your trek.
